writing is not new. Its been around since the beginign of humanity, and most of it seems to be good literature. Since 1937 of mice and men has been a great example of good literature from the Nobel speech given by steinbeck in 1962.
According to steinbeck, good literature shows greatness, a fall or failure , and the overcome of fear, conflicts, and inner struggles. The book of mice and men is from the time when people talked kind of slangy, but it shows good literature from george and curlys wife, because george takes care of lennie and trys to keep him safe. Though he acts cynical towards curlys wife when she is around because he dosnt trust her and how she makes others act, which causes fear for george because he has to worry about lennie getting in to trubble because of her.
Curlys wife shows some of the good literature when she has conflicts in others because she is a lone and she trys so hard to get others to talk to her, she has fear because she dosnt know if her life with curly is worth living any more, and thinks that she could have been an actoress, and she fears that she wont be able to talk to any one ever again.
"literature is the understanding and communication towards others" Even though george is cynical towards curlys wife he also feels sympothy for her because she is alone like an out cast.
"having god like powers, man him self has become a great hazard and the only hope" George has given life tlo lennie because he protects him but later lon he has to take the life of lennie away only because he hopes to save him truble of going through pain. Curlys wife also helped take lennies life away by tempting him, and she could have tooken it away from crooks.
It goes to show that " In the end is hte word, and the word is man, and the word is with man" its the understanding and communication that is different through each man who comes apon the words.
